Welcome
God Is at Work
With these simple thoughts, Psalm 122 helps us understand what church is really all about. We gather together to worship God. It is that simple – God’s people at prayer. So it is that David looked forward to going to the house of the Lord.
When we think of worship we often think of what we are doing. We pray. We sing hymns. We listen to Scripture. We hear the sermon. We receive Holy Communion. We encourage each other in the faith. Those are things we do.
But God is at work every step of the way. God listens to our prayers, spoken and sung (1 John 5:14-15). God gives us faith through Scripture and sermon (Romans 10:17). God sends us Christ and forgives our sins in Holy Communion (Matthew 26:26-28). God reconciles us to Himself and each other to bring us peace (2 Corinthians 5:18-19). God is busy in our worship.
With all the things God does for us in worship, it is no wonder why David looked forward to going to the house of the Lord. Our Lord welcomes you into His presence just like he welcomed David, to know the eternal love and joy he offers you through His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
