LibreOffice is a free, full office suite for Windows, Linux and Macs that is compatible with Microsoft Office and Lotus SmartSuite. We use this software at the church to produce worship folders, newsletters and the slides used during worship. It can read and write Microsoft Office files, as well as others. Click here to get the latest free version at LibreOffice.org (Note: Previously we had used OpenOffice "Openoffice.org" but have changed over to this "fork" of OpenOffice. This version offers new features and has many of the same developers that had worked on Open Office working on it.) Another fork of Open Office is Lotus Symphony, which is also free, but has the least features of the three office suites mentioned here. |

Ubuntuis a free Linux operating system for your computer. Interested in not using Windows or you would like to try something different without the security issues? Ubuntu is available as a "live" cd, or thumb drive version that allows you to run it from a disc to see if you want to use it without making any changes to your computer. It can be installed next to Windows provided you have enough room on your hard drive. It can even be installed inside Windows. For those who are new to computers: Linux and Windows are different! Windows programs do not run on Linux (unless they run under Wine in Linux or have a Linux version). Ubuntu.com |
